Dashboard versus report
Use the dashboard to start your day. Use a report to answer a specific question. See /reports/overview.
Getting there
The dashboard lives at your workspace’s Dashboard page. Open the command palette and search for “Dashboard” to jump to it.The dashboard belongs to the Reports app. If Reports is switched off for the workspace, the dashboard is switched off with it. See /concepts/apps-and-modules.
The widgets
Your Progress
The headline card, with three figures:
Deleted entries drop out of these totals immediately, not at the point they are permanently removed.
Active Timer
A small card showing whether you have a timer running.
See /time-tracking/using-the-timer.
Needs Attention
Appears only when something is waiting on you. Each item is a card with a title and a short line of context, plus a chevron to go and deal with it. Items cover things you own and have not finished, such as a timesheet you have not submitted, an expense still in draft, or a task that needs you.No cards here means nothing is outstanding. The section hides itself rather than showing an empty box.
Recent Activity
The tasks you have most recently tracked time against, each with its current status. Hover a row and a play control appears so you can pick the work back up. Empty state: “No recent task activity.”Pending Approvals
Appears only if things are waiting on your decision – timesheets and leave requests you are the reviewer for. Each row is one item, and clicking it takes you to the approval. This section is about your responsibilities to other people, where Needs Attention is about your own work. See /approvals/overview.Up Next
Your task queue. Each card shows:
Empty state: “Your queue is clear!”
Empty and loading states
While the dashboard loads you see shimmer placeholders. If you have no queue, no recent tasks, nothing needing attention, no approvals, no running timer and no hours this week, the whole page collapses to:Nothing to report yet Once your group tracks time and runs projects, your numbers show up here. That is the normal state on your first day.
What the dashboard does not show
The dashboard is scoped to you. It carries no workspace revenue, no project cost and no margin – those are report questions, and they live behind the cost and rate permissions.Example
Sarah Lin opens Northwind Studio on Tuesday morning.
She submits the timesheet, starts a timer on “Homepage wireframes”, and the Active Timer card flips to Running….
Priya Raman opens the same page and also sees Pending Approvals, because Sarah’s timesheet is now waiting on her.
Permissions
The dashboard needs no capability of its own. It shows your own work, so there is nothing to gate. Two things still shape it:- The Reports app must be on. The dashboard sits inside the Reports app, so switching Reports off hides it.
- Pending Approvals only appears if you are an approver. A member with no approval rights never sees that section.
What happens next
The dashboard updates live. Start a timer and the card changes. Submit a timesheet and the attention card clears. Nothing needs refreshing. When you want a question the dashboard cannot answer, build a report – see /reports/build-a-report.Common questions

The same widgets, different content. Every figure is your own work, and Pending Approvals only appears for approvers.
Why is there no revenue on my dashboard?
Why is there no revenue on my dashboard?
The dashboard is a personal work view, not a financial one. Money questions belong in reports, where the cost and rate permissions apply.
