General holds your workspace’s identity: its name, the currency you report in, and the timezone the workspace runs on. Find it at Settings → General.

What is on this page

There is one card, Workspace details, with three fields and a Save changes button. Nothing saves until you click Save changes. You get a “Changes saved.” confirmation when it lands.

How to change them

1

Open General

Go to Settings. General is the first item under Workspace.
2

Edit the fields

Change the name, currency or timezone. You can change all three at once.
3

Save

Click Save changes. The new values apply to everyone in the workspace straight away.

Workspace name

The name appears in the workspace switcher, in emails, and at the top of your settings. It is also the string you must type to confirm a workspace deletion. Renaming is safe. It changes what people see and nothing else.
The name is tidied when it saves – spaces at the ends are trimmed and capitalisation is normalised. If what you typed comes back looking slightly different, that is why.

Base currency

The base currency is the one your workspace reports in. Budgets, invoice totals, cost and margin all roll up into it. Use a 3-letter code such as USD, EUR or INR. The field forces upper case as you type. A code that is not exactly three letters is rejected.
Changing the base currency changes the currency your figures are reported in. It does not convert or rewrite amounts already recorded. Decide your base currency early and leave it alone.
Northwind Studio bills in USD, so its base currency is USD. Sarah Lin’s 100/hourbillablerateandBluebirdCoffees100/hour billable rate and Bluebird Coffee's 40,000 budget are both in that currency.

Timezone

The workspace timezone decides how a moment in time is shown to everyone – when a time entry started, when someone clocked in, when a comment was posted.
Changing the timezone also moves your work schedules. Any schedule still set to the old workspace zone is re-pointed to the new one, so reminders and expected hours do not keep firing in the old zone.A schedule that someone deliberately put in a third zone is left alone. If Ana Ferreira works to a schedule pinned to her own zone, that stays where it is.

Dates behave differently from times

Two kinds of value are treated differently on purpose. A due date of 9 July is 9 July for everyone. A calendar day is a calendar day.

The workspace URL

Every screen in TimeTracker lives under your workspace’s URL slug: /{workspaceSlug}/projects, /{workspaceSlug}/settings, and so on. Northwind Studio’s slug is northwind, so its projects page is /northwind/projects. The slug is set when the workspace is created and cannot be changed afterwards. It is made from the workspace name at that moment – spaces and punctuation become dashes, accents are simplified, and everything is lower case. If that slug is already taken, a number is added, so a second “Northwind Studio” becomes northwind-2.
Renaming the workspace does not change the slug. That is deliberate. Every link anyone has saved or shared keeps working, because the address never moves. The name in the switcher changes; the URL does not.

What happens after you save

  • The new values apply to everyone in the workspace at once.
  • The change is recorded in the workspace history, along with who made it.
  • The workspace stops guessing these values from a browser. Until someone saves this page, a new workspace can pick up a sensible currency and timezone automatically. Saving pins your choice permanently, so nothing overwrites it later.

Permissions

The server checks the capability again on every save, so a hidden button is not what stops an edit.

Troubleshooting

The base currency must be exactly three letters – USD, not US or US$. Digits and symbols are refused.
The name must have at least one character after trimming spaces, and at most 80 characters.
Check the schedule that person is assigned to. A schedule pinned to a different zone is left alone by a workspace timezone change, by design. Open Schedules and set that schedule’s zone yourself.
You cannot. The slug is fixed when the workspace is created. If you need a different address, create a new workspace – but note that nothing moves across automatically.
You do not hold workspace.updateSettings. Ask an Owner or Admin.
